FAQs

What is ERP and how is it different from “regular therapy”?

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) is the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for OCD.
Instead of exploring thoughts endlessly or trying to argue with them, ERP helps you:

  • Gradually face the thoughts, images, sensations, or situations that trigger your obsessions

  • Practice resisting compulsions and mental rituals

  • Build confidence in tolerating uncertainty

While traditional talk therapy can be helpful for many issues, it often doesn’t interrupt the OCD cycle. ERP gives you a structured way to change the pattern driving your symptoms.

Will I have to do things I’m terrified of?

No. You will never be forced into exposures you’re not ready for.
ERP is a collaborative, paced process. We begin with the mildest items on your hierarchy — not your biggest fears — and move forward together.

You always know:

  • What we’re doing

  • Why we’re doing it

  • How it supports your long-term goals

ERP is challenging at times, but it should never feel unsafe or overwhelming. Your autonomy is central to the process.

Does ERP work for “Pure-O” or intrusive thoughts that don’t have visible compulsions?

Yes. ERP is highly effective for intrusive thoughts and mental compulsions such as ruminating, reassurance seeking, or checking your memory.
Together, we’ll practice:

  • Allowing intrusive thoughts to show up without fighting them

  • Interrupting mental rituals

  • Building tolerance for uncertainty

ERP works for all OCD subtypes — there is no theme that is “too weird” or “too shameful.”

Do you treat other concerns besides OCD?

Yes. In addition to OCD, I work with adults experiencing generalized anxiety, depression, chronic worry, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and life-transition stress. Many clients come in with overlapping symptoms, and we tailor treatment to support the whole picture (not just one diagnosis).

What if I’m not sure I have OCD, can we still work together?

Absolutely. Many people reach out because they’re struggling with intrusive thoughts, uncertainty, overthinking, low mood, or self-doubt, but aren’t sure what’s driving it. In our first session, we explore your experiences together and determine the best treatment approach. If ERP isn’t the right fit, I also offer CBT and ACT for anxiety, depression, values-based living, and self-confidence work.

Do you use approaches other than ERP?

Yes. While ERP is the gold-standard for OCD, I also have advanced training in:

  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
Both are evidence-based, skills-oriented treatments that help with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I integrate these modalities as needed so therapy feels supportive, personalized, and effective.

How do ACT and CBT fit in with ERP?

ACT helps you develop a healthier relationship with your thoughts and emotions, while CBT helps you understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Both blend naturally with ERP and they support confidence, resilience, and the ability to move toward what matters most in your life.

How does telehealth ERP work? Can ERP really be done online?

Yes — ERP works extremely well via secure video sessions. Many clients actually prefer online ERP because:

  • You’re already in the environment where your symptoms show up

  • We can design exposures that match your real-life routines

  • There’s less travel and scheduling stress

  • You can do ERP where it matters most: your home, workplace, car, or daily life

Telehealth ERP is as effective as in-person treatment when delivered by a trained therapist.

Are telehealth sessions secure and HIPAA-compliant?

Yes. All sessions take place through a secure, encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video platform.
Your privacy is protected through:

  • Encrypted video connections

  • A private, password-protected client portal

  • Secure storage of documentation

  • No recording of sessions

I also recommend clients join sessions from a private, quiet space to support confidentiality.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. I am currently in-network with Aetna, Carelon, Cigna, and Quest Behavioral Health in California. I am also in-network with Aetna and Quest in Montana

If you have one of these plans, sessions are billed directly through your insurance. Coverage, copays, and deductibles vary by plan, and we can review your benefits during a free consultation.

For clients using other insurance plans or who prefer not to use insurance, I am self-pay. I can provide superbills for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

How much are sessions, and how often will we meet?

Sessions are $195 for 50 minutes.

During the early stages of ERP, most clients benefit from meeting weekly to build momentum. As symptoms improve, we may shift to every other week. Frequency is always tailored to your goals and capacity.

What ages do you work with?

I currently work with children (as young as 8), teens, and adults (18+) seeking support for OCD and related anxiety disorders.

Do you offer telehealth across the whole state of both California and Montana?

Yes. I’m licensed in Montana California and can work with adults located anywhere in the state at the time of session — including Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, the Bay Area, Sacramento, and rural regions.

What if I’m in crisis?

Online requests and messages are not monitored 24/7.
If you’re in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, please contact:

  • 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)

  • 911

  • Your nearest emergency room

ERP therapy is not a substitute for emergency services.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments are subject to a $125 fee, which is not covered by insurance.

This policy helps protect reserved session time and supports consistent care.
